Where the record actually lives
When a franchised Audi dealer services a car, the visit is written into the manufacturer's central system — the Digital Service Schedule — against the vehicle's 17-character VIN. The entry records the date, the odometer reading, the work carried out and which dealership did it.
That has a useful consequence: the record belongs to the car, not to the owner. It doesn't disappear when the service book goes missing, when the car is sold, or when it crosses a border and gets new plates. Digital coverage is reliable from roughly 2010 onwards and comprehensive on cars built from about 2019. Pre-2010 Audis may return partial records depending on the supplying dealer's migration into the central system.

Why this matters in the Irish market
