Lost Service Book

Lost the service book? Recover the digital record

A missing service book is not a missing service history. If the car was serviced at franchised main dealers, the record still exists in the manufacturer's system against the VIN. €12.99 to retrieve it, and no charge if there is nothing to find.

Can I get a replacement service history?

In most cases, yes. Since roughly 2012 the major manufacturers have logged main-dealer servicing electronically rather than relying on the paper book, and that record is keyed to the VIN. Enter the VIN above and we return what the dealer network holds, as a PDF you can keep, print or send to a buyer.

Why the digital record usually survives

The stamped book was only ever a copy. When a franchised dealer services a car, the visit is written into the manufacturer's central system — and that entry stays there when the book is lost, binned with the previous owner's paperwork, or left in a glovebox in another country.

For a car imported from the UK or Northern Ireland this is often the only surviving record, because the paperwork rarely crosses with the car. The history is retrievable years after the fact.

What to do if the record comes back thin

  • Ask the seller which garage serviced it — independent-garage work is never in the manufacturer's system, and their own invoices may fill the gap
  • Contact the supplying main dealer directly; some will reprint a history for the registered owner in person
  • Keep every invoice from now on — a rebuilt history from dated invoices still carries weight with a buyer
  • Price accordingly. A car with no verifiable history sells for less, and pretending otherwise costs more time than it saves

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I get a duplicate service book?

A blank replacement book can be bought, but a blank book proves nothing and stamping it retrospectively is fraud. What has actual value to a buyer is the manufacturer's own record, which is what we retrieve.

How far back do digital records go?

It varies by manufacturer. Most major brands are reliable from about 2012, several from the mid-2000s, and a few premium brands earlier still. Older cars are more likely to return partial records or nothing at all — in which case you are not charged.

Does a lost service book reduce the car's value?

A missing history does, yes — buyers discount what they cannot verify. Producing the manufacturer's own digital record removes the doubt, which is usually worth many times the cost of the check.

Does this include NCT history?

No. We return official manufacturer and main-dealer service records — the maintenance history. The NCT is a separate roadworthiness test held by the RSA and is not part of the report. Anyone offering you an Irish service history that is really just test history is selling you something different.

The car was imported from the UK — does that matter?

It helps. Manufacturer service records are stored against the VIN, not the number plate, so a car built and serviced in the UK keeps its dealer history after it is imported, VRT is paid and it goes onto Irish plates. That history is often the fullest record on the car.

What does a report cost?

€12.99. Your card is authorised at checkout but only charged if we actually find service records for the vehicle. If nothing is on file, the authorisation is released and you pay nothing.

Where do I find the VIN?

The VIN is a 17-character code. It is printed in field E of the Vehicle Registration Certificate (the Irish logbook), stamped at the base of the windscreen on the driver's side, and shown on a plate inside the driver's door frame. On a UK import it will also be on the V5C the seller may still hold.

Which cars have records?

Cars serviced at franchised main dealers, where the visit was logged into the manufacturer's central system. Work done at an independent garage is not in the manufacturer's system and will not appear. Digital coverage is strong from roughly 2012 onwards and thins out on older cars.
