How Opel records service data
Opel and Vauxhall are sister brands within Stellantis (formerly Groupe PSA, formerly GM) — they share models, platforms and the same Stellantis dealer management system. Opel records and Vauxhall records both flow into the same VIN-keyed database. For registered Opel-badged vehicles (typically grey imports from continental Europe), records are retrieved through the same system that handles Vauxhall — the system identifies the badge but the underlying record structure is identical. Coverage is digital from approximately 2004 onwards, with strong continuity through the GM → PSA → Stellantis ownership transitions. For German-registered Opels the German Opel dealer network provides additional record density.
Opel models we cover
registered Opel models are typically imports of the same vehicles sold as Vauxhall: Corsa, Astra, Insignia, Mokka, Crossland, Grandland, Combo, Vivaro, Movano, Zafira / Zafira Life, plus the German-only Adam (pre-2019). Mokka-e, Corsa-e and Combo-e Life electric variants are covered. The new Astra Sports Tourer estate (recently re-introduced) is included.
Opel-specific things to know
Two Opel-specific things to know: First, registered Opels are usually grey imports — service history may have been built up in Germany / EU before registration, and records exist both pre-import (German dealer) and post-import (UK Vauxhall dealer). Both should be retrievable through the unified system. Second, the same engine concerns as Vauxhall apply (1.4 turbo timing-chain on older variants, M32 gearbox bearings, etc.) — verifiable dealer-record entries are the best mitigation.
Why check Opel service history before buying
Opel-badged car resale is typically slightly lower than equivalent Vauxhall because of the import status — verifiable Opel-and-Vauxhall dealer history (typically a mix of German and UK records) substantially supports trade-in value. Workshop-verified service compliance typically adds 8-12% to trade-in over partial-history equivalents.
