How reliable is the Peugeot 2008? What the evidence shows
We don't give the 2008 a reliability score — no public source measures breakdowns, warranty claims or repair costs across every model, so a single number would be invented. This is what we can source for cars built from 2012.

Newer generations have had less time on the road for problems to show, so a short list is not a clean bill of health.
Where these come from: our research is built from manufacturer statements and motoring publications, most of them British. A warranty extension or goodwill scheme described here may have been offered in another country only — ask a dealer here whether it applies to your car.
2008 Mk2 (P24, incl. e-2008) (2019 on)
Acknowledged by the manufacturer
Problems the maker has admitted — through an extended warranty, a compensation scheme, a service action or a statement.
None that we hold for this model.
Reported by owners and the motoring press
Problems at least two independent publishers report on this model, that the maker has not acknowledged. They describe the model, not this car — many cars never have them.

Infotainment and sat-nav glitches
Glitchy infotainment, and the navigation in particular, is the most common owner complaint about the second-generation 2008, and electric e-2008 owners also report infotainment glitches and faulty sensors. Many controls run through the touchscreen, so check it works properly before buying.
Applies to: 2008 Mk2 (2019 on), including the electric e-2008

Diesel particulate filter (DPF) blocking on short trips
The diesel particulate filter needs regular longer runs to burn off soot. Cars used mostly for short town trips can block it, bringing up a warning light, reduced power and, on some cars, a refusal to start. Interrupted cleaning cycles can also let fuel into the engine oil, so the oil level rises. Chemical cleaning may not be enough, and a new filter is expensive.
Applies to: Diesel Peugeot 208, 2008, 308 and 3008, Citroën C4 Picasso, Grand C4 Picasso, C4 Cactus and DS3, built 2012–2024
Mostly a problem for diesels used on short trips; the picker can't tell us how a car has been driven.

Touchscreen and Bluetooth glitches
The 2008's touchscreen had software faults from launch, and on older cars the screen can develop dead pixels or stop responding to touch. Bluetooth is also temperamental — owners report connection problems and music streaming that won't load playlists. An aftermarket screen is a straightforward replacement.
Applies to: 2008 Mk1 (2013–2019) with the touchscreen
The entry-level Access+ had no touchscreen. The make, model and year can't tell us the trim.

Tyres wearing unevenly
Owners report uneven tyre wear on the first 2008. Poor wheel alignment is one suspected cause, and keeping the tyre pressures right is said to help. Check all four tyres for even wear across the tread.

Automated manual gearbox (ETG/EGS/EGC): jerky and clutch wear
Peugeot and Citroën's automated manual gearbox — badged ETG, EGS or EGC — is a manual gearbox with a robot doing the clutch and shifts. Changes are slow and jerky, and owners report it hesitating to change up or down. A chattering noise when idling in gear can mean the clutch is worn; some shift faults are cured by a software update.
Applies to: Peugeot 208, 2008 (to the 2016 facelift) and 508, and Citroën C4, C4 Picasso, Grand C4 Picasso and C4 Cactus with the automated manual gearbox, built 2012–2018
The make, model and year can't tell us the gearbox, so this shows on all of these models. It applies only to the automated manual (ETG, EGS or EGC) — not to manual cars or to the EAT6/EAT8 torque-converter automatics.

These describe the model, not one car. Plenty of cars never have the problems their model is known for. Every problem links to its sources; a reported problem needs two independent publishers before we list it.
Recalls aren't listed here. A franchised dealer can tell you from the VIN whether a recall is open on a particular car.
Common questions
Is the Peugeot 2008 reliable?
We don't score reliability: no public source records breakdowns, warranty claims or repair costs across every model, so a single rating would be guesswork. What we hold for Peugeot 2008 cars built from 2012: 0 problems Peugeot has acknowledged, through a warranty extension, goodwill scheme or service action, and 5 reported by at least two independent publishers — listed above by generation, each with its sources. Which matter depends on the generation and engine, and on whether the work has been done, which a service history check shows.
What are the most common Peugeot 2008 problems?
For cars built from 2012, the problems at least two independent publishers report include: Infotainment and sat-nav glitches; Diesel particulate filter (DPF) blocking on short trips; Touchscreen and Bluetooth glitches; Tyres wearing unevenly; Automated manual gearbox (ETG/EGS/EGC): jerky and clutch wear. Which apply depends on the generation and engine — they are listed generation by generation above, each with its sources.
Has Peugeot acknowledged problems with the 2008?
We haven't found a warranty extension, goodwill scheme or service action in which Peugeot acknowledged a problem on this model. The reported problems above come from the motoring press.
Does every 2008 have these problems?
No. These describe the model; many cars never have them, and a well-maintained car is less likely to. Whether a known problem was fixed is what a service history shows: our check returns the manufacturer's dealer records by VIN, and there's no charge if we find nothing.
Has this car had the work done?
A known problem matters far less on a car whose dealer records show it was fixed. A service history check returns the manufacturer's own dealership records for a specific car, found by its VIN — what was done, when and at what mileage — and there's no charge if we find nothing.
