What the handbooks don't say
- Pre-2007 (Td5/300Tdi) Defender handbooks on the TOPIx archive print pressure tables laid out differently from the 2007 edition; they predate 2008 and their edition years are not printed in the chapters read, so they are not recorded.
- 2012-2016 (2.2-litre) handbooks (LRL 10 02 51 131 and 151) print sizes but no pressures - they refer to the B-pillar label.
Figures marked "Maker's handbook" link to the maker's own document. "Reported" figures are the maker's, read from a copy we could not get from the maker directly. What tyre pressure should a Land Rover Defender have?
It depends on the tyre size and, on some versions, the engine. For the sizes Land Rover lists, the normal-load pressure is 30–45 psi (2.1–3.1 bar) at the front and 38–65 psi (2.6–4.5 bar) at the rear. Find your size in the tables above, and check the tyres cold.
What size tyres does a Land Rover Defender take?
Land Rover fitted the Defender with 7.50 R16, 205/80 R16, 235/85 R16, 255/70 R18, 255/60 R20 and 275/60 R20, depending on the generation and trim. The size is printed on the side of your tyre; the pressures above are listed by size.
Where is the tyre pressure label on a Land Rover Defender?
On most cars it is on the driver's door pillar or inside the fuel filler flap. It normally gives the same figures as the handbook, which is where the ones on this page come from — if the two ever disagree, go by the label on your car.
When should I use the fully laden pressures?
When the car is carrying a full load — every seat taken, a full boot or a trailer. For everyday driving use the normal figures.
